To maintain book accuracy, a massive change must be made to Egwene’s story in Season 3 of Wheel of Time

Summary

  • Egwene’s journey in the Wheel of Time needs to be shifted towards the White Tower to allow for a more accurate adaptation of her character arc.
  • Egwene’s return to the White Tower in Season 3 is crucial to her training and political development on her path to the Amyrlin Seat.
  • By focusing on Egwene’s story in the White Tower, Wheel of Time is able to advance her character development and introduce her greatest lover.

In order to give the books more accuracy in the long run, Egwene’s story needs a significant change in direction in The Wheel of Time Season 3. Like her book counterpart, Egwene’s journey in The Wheel of Time Season 2 saw her go from being a novice in the White Tower to a slave of the Seanchan. Based on Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time The books correspond to the respective seasons of the Prime Video series. The most obvious path for Egwene’s next story is her time with the Wise Ones in the Aiel Wastes.

The Wheel of Time Season 3 will follow the events of the fourth book in the series, The rising shadowFor Egwene, The rising shadow represents the time when Egwene discovers her unique talent: Dreaming. Since Dreaming is forbidden by the Aes Sedai in The Wheel of TimeOf course, the Aiel were the only ones who could show Egwene how to use this ability. Because of this, it’s easy to assume that the TV version of Egwene will accompany Rand when he inevitably heads out into the Aiel Wastes. But while this is crucial to her story arc, it would actually be beneficial to her long-term story if she went somewhere else instead.

Why Egwene has to be in the White Tower for Season 3 of The Wheel of Time

Egwene was to return to the White Tower after leaving Falme

Nynaeve, Elayne and Egwene are in the Wheel of Time.

As important as it may seem that Egwene is in the Aiel Wastes in the upcoming season, it is even more important that she spends some time in Tar Valon. The Wheel of Time Season 2 didn’t get very far in terms of Egwene’s education, as she was still struggling when she, Nynaeve, and Elayne were sold to the Seanchan. However, this was not an issue for the books, as She was quickly returned to the White Tower for the next entry in the series. The Reborn DragonBut since the show seems The Reborn Dragonthe show cannot simply adapt this storyline and its story arc into The rising shadow together.

Whitewashing what happened in The Reborn Dragon could be feasible for some characters, but perhaps not for Egwene, especially given what she ultimately becomes in the source material. As Min Farshaw’s viewing confirmed back in Season 1, Egwene is destined to become the Amyrlin Seat. In the books Egwene experienced a remarkable rise in Tar Valonfrom novice to Accepted, to full member of the Aes Sedai and to the Amyrlin Seat. It will be a challenge for the series to do justice to this turbulent journey if it stays away from the White Tower for two seasons.

The politics of the Aes Sedai are an essential part of Egwene’s storyand that is exactly why The Wheel of Time must prioritize this connection as she advances her arc. If Wheel of Time keeping her away from the White Tower until season four or later, it will hardly feel appropriate to have her succeed Elaida (the expected successor to Siuan Sanche). Egwene was already considered inexperienced when she was given the Amylin Seat in the books, and if she doesn’t reach at least Accepted level in the near future, it will be significantly more difficult for the show to give this character her deserved moment.

Sending Egwene to the White Tower doesn’t mean Wheel of Time has to give up her dream story

There is a way for Wheel Of Time to tell the stories from books 3 and 4 at once

The dilemma Wheel of Time before Season 3 is not exactly an ultimatum, as it is possible that the show can accommodate the largest parts of both The Reborn Dragon And The rising shadow into a season. The Aiel Desert and Tar Valon lie on different sides of the The Wheel of Time Map makes this difficult, of course, but the nature of the Dreaming suggests this possibility. Because of the way Tel’aran’rhiod, also known as the World of Dreams, works, Egwene could theoretically interact with the Wise Ones without ever setting foot in the Aiel Wastes.

As the series demonstrated in Season 2, Tel’aran’rhiod is a way for characters in vastly different places to communicate with each other. Since distance is not an issue for dreamers, Egwene could meet the Wise Ones either intentionally or by chance when she enters Tel’aran’rhiod. If that happens, she can learn about dreams at night and continue her education in the White Tower during the day. Taking this course may be the best way to ensure that nothing important is left out or ignored when telling Egwene’s story.

Wheel Of Time already has the perfect story for Egwene when she returns to the White Tower

Egwene can witness the coup in the White Tower

Locking Egwene in the White Tower and isolating her from her allies does not mean that her story is all about training and excitement. In fact, It could be a suitable centrepiece for one of the The shadow rises biggest plot developments. In the book, Elaida led an Aes Sedai coup in the White Tower and had Siuan deposed. Both Siuan and Min are crucial to this particular story, but neither counts as one of The Wheel of Time protagonists. For this reason, the series could choose to make one of its main characters the center of this story arc. If Egwene is already there, there would be no better candidate for this role than her.

After all, Egwene is destined to become the Amyrlin seat. If that is the case, it would make sense for the show to use Wheel of Time Season 3 begins with the preparation of her highly anticipated ascension to the White Tower. This can be achieved by building relationships between Egwene and other rulers in Tar Valon, allowing her to rise through the ranks and giving her a better understanding of the politics of the White Tower. Most importantly, it can involve them in the conflict over who controls the White Towera fight whose face she will one day be in The wheel of time.

Being in the White Tower would also be good news for Egwene’s love story in the Wheel of Time

Egwene’s greatest lover should be in the White Tower in Season 3

An additional advantage of placing Egwene in The Wheel of Time is the ease with which it can introduce her to her main love interest from the books. In the source material, Egwene puts her feelings for Rand behind and develops a romantic relationship with Elayne Trakand’s brother Gawyn. She first met him in the White Tower in The Great Huntbut the series never took that path. This can easily be corrected when she returns to the White Tower in Season 3, especially since Gawyn is a key figure in the Aes Sedai coup. In the books he ends up on Elaida’s side.

Was The Wheel of Time Sending Egwene to the Aiel Wastes would leave no narrative justification for her to meet Gawyn in Season 3. As a member of the royal family of Andor, it’s hard to imagine he has a good reason for this adventure, especially if he has no existing connection to any figure traveling the Aiel lands. Gawyn and Egwene can continue to interact and develop a dynamic with each other when both are in the White Tower.
