Jordan Love lands ahead of Aaron Rodgers on the latest top 100 list

Jordan Love lands ahead of Aaron Rodgers on the latest top 100 list

The Green Bay Packers took a huge risk after the 2022 NFL season by trading future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets. The move was, of course, made so that Jordan Love, whom the Packers drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, could take over as starting quarterback. At the time of the decision, many people (including many Packers fans) doubted the risk would pay off.

Fortunately for Green Bay, Love emerged as one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks last season, thanks largely to a strong second half. Rodgers, of course, missed all but four snaps of the 2023 NFL regular season due to a torn Achilles tendon.

With just a week left until NFL training camp, more and more media outlets are releasing their player rankings for the upcoming season. On one of those lists, Love ranks well ahead of Rodgers.

Love is ranked 58th on Pro Football Network’s Top 100 NFL Players list

Pro Football Network recently released its list of the 100 greatest NFL players, and it includes three Packers players: Love, Jaire Alexander and Xavier McKinney. Love was the highest-ranked Packers player at number 58.

“Jordan Love entered the season with just one professional appearance as a backup to former Green Bay Packers starter Aaron Rodgers and finished second in the NFL in touchdown passes (32), fifth in pass efficiency and ninth in QBR while leading the Green Bay Packers to nine regular-season wins and a Wild Card victory over the Cowboys.

In 2024, Love could be an MVP candidate while leading the NFL’s youngest offense.”

It’s worth noting that Love’s 2023 Packers won one more game than Rodgers’ 2022 Packers. Love also achieved all of those stats with only first- and second-year receivers to throw to.

In other words, he did more with less (on paper) than Rodgers did in 2022. It’s also worth noting that Love’s 2023 season was better than Rodgers’ 2022 season.

Rodgers finished 80th on Pro Football Network’s top 100 NFL players list

After missing almost all of 2023, Rodgers landed at No. 80 on the Pro Football Network list.

“It’s almost impossible to predict how Aaron Rodgers will perform in 2024. Despite winning two consecutive MVPs in 2020 and 2021, Rodgers is now 40 years old, coming off a torn Achilles tendon and still trying to get his time with the New York Jets on track.

“The talent is probably still there, but Rodgers’ countless question marks – punctuated by his erratic personality and odd offseason – make the legendary QB a complete mystery.”

Rodgers obviously has high expectations for himself for the 2024 season. However, as PFN notes, it’s hard to predict how a 40-year-old quarterback will come back from a torn Achilles tendon.

Remember, Rodgers had the worst year of his career in 2022. Was that a sign of a rapid decline or just a blip in an otherwise Hall of Fame career?

The year 2024 will answer this question.
