FMCA’s Chris Smith resigns as Executive Director and CEO – RVBusiness

Chris Smith

In a message to members on Sunday, July 14, it was announced that Chris Smith has resigned from his position as executive director and CEO of the FMCA. In an email, FMCA national president Gary Milner informed the association’s members that Smith had asked for his contract to be terminated and that “he and the FMCA have reached a mutual agreement to part ways.”

Smith declined to comment when contacted by Motorhome business.

In accordance with FMCA’s charter and with the approval of the board, Milner added, an administrative committee has been appointed to search for a successor. In addition to Milner, the administrative committee includes Paul Mitchell, Bill Dees, Dianna Huff and human resources representative Sherry Light.

“On behalf of the FMCA, I would like to thank Chris for his more than ten years of service,” concluded Milner.

Smith has served as the FMCA’s executive director and CEO since October 2016. Smith joined the association in August 2013 as director of administrative services/controller. Smith graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Prior to joining the FMCA, he spent several years as an assistant controller for a Cincinnati-based company.

In December 2017, FMCA expanded membership eligibility—which until then had been open to owners of motorized RVs—to include owners of all types of self-contained RVs. Previously, membership was limited to RV owners for the first 54 years of FMCA’s history.

The Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA) is an international organization for families who own and enjoy using self-sufficient, motorized recreational vehicles called RVs. The association has its national headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, and currently has over 70,000 active member families. The FMCA offers its members a number of benefits, including a subscription to the monthly Family Motor Coaching magazine, a medical evacuation and travel assistance program valued at $105 per family, group rates for a roadside assistance program and for RV and auto insurance, discounted rates for RV tours and travel trailers, and a tire purchasing program. Perhaps the most important benefit of FMCA membership is the camaraderie and friendships that develop among people who share a common interest in RV travel and recreational activities. The organization can be reached at (513) 474-3622 or (800) 543-3622 and on the Internet at FMCA.com.
