With the power of three…

Shannen Doherty, who died on July 13 at the age of 53 after a years-long battle with cancer, was open to participating in a “Charmed” reboot.

Doherty is best known for her roles in the television series “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Charmed,” which aired from 1998 to 2006.

She played Prue Halliwell in the first three seasons of “Charmed,” alongside Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs. The series was about the witch sisters Prue (Doherty), Piper (Combs), and Phoebe (Milano). Doherty left the series after season 3 and was replaced by Rose McGowan, who played Paige, the youngest half-sister.

A week before Doherty’s death, a “Charmed” rerun podcast called “The House of Halliwell” was announced, with Doherty co-hosting alongside Combs, Brian Krause and Drew Fuller.

Five recorded episodes of the podcast with Doherty will be released posthumously.

The first episode was released on July 8. The second episode, titled “Shannen’s Magic Lives On,” was released on July 15.

“How much fun the four of us had watching it all. And how much fun I had watching it after I left. I never really watched it when I was there,” Doherty said on the podcast.

“I rewatched four or five episodes the other day and my jaw dropped. I was like, ‘Oh my God, what kind of show is this?'” she added. “I was pretty baffled by the whole thing. I was hooked.”

“There were episodes where I thought, ‘Wow, that was really good,'” she said, adding, “To be honest, I was really impressed with the pilot. I think later on, probably in season three, when I know I’m going to die, I’ll be a lot more emotional. I’m really looking forward to seeing the episodes that Rose was in, because I haven’t seen them.”

As the co-hosts discussed a possible reboot of “Charmed,” Doherty shared her idea of where Prue’s life would have taken her.

“I always thought she would have been an elder. She would be a cool elder, and she would be the most powerful elder who could always keep up with you while wearing funky, awesome clothes,” she said.

The CW has already made a short-lived and controversial “Charmed” reboot, which premiered in 2018 and aired for four seasons, albeit with a new cast.

When the reboot came out and the network described it as a “wild, funny and feminist” reboot, McGowan, 50, and Combs were not impressed that they were not invited to join.

“I haven’t experienced it. I’m glad people have jobs. But it can still be bad,” McGowan said.

Combs, 50, was harshly critical of the reboot at the time, saying: “I will never understand what is wild, funny or feminist about creating a show that basically says the original actresses are too old to do a job they did 12 years ago. I hope the new show is much better than the marketing so the true legacy is preserved.”

Doherty and her former co-stars seemed to be talking about a different reboot they would be involved in, as opposed to the 2018 reboot.

Doherty said, “I think if we ever got a text or a call from Connie (Burge, the creator) and we actually had a whole idea and pitched it to CBS, I don’t know why they wouldn’t do it. It’s so successful. Right? Why not do it?”

She added: “And we come back with the loud chatter that reflects everyone’s dynamic and who gets along and who doesn’t. I can’t imagine CBS saying no. It’s such a good show that we really should revisit it and do a version.”

The description of Monday’s podcast episode also explained that the podcast project was already in the works before Doherty’s death.

“This show, this character, this podcast meant so much to Shannen that she couldn’t wait to share it with ‘Charmed’ fans everywhere,” it said.

“We want to honour her memory and fulfil Shannen’s wishes by airing the first five episodes she recorded before her death. She was excited about this project and proud to have played Prue Halliwell. We hope these episodes bring some comfort to all who loved her.”

Her former co-star Krause said on Monday’s episode, “Shannen was just so driven and determined to contribute to the success of this show and to give you all more insight into the making, the fun and the behind the scenes of ‘Charmed.’ When Shannen wanted something done, she got it done, and I learned that a long time ago watching her on set.”

He added: “Meeting the fans, hearing their stories and knowing how much it meant to you all was deeply fulfilling for her and I know she believed that The House of Halliwell was the little she could give back.”

Regarding the future of the podcast, he said: “We’re going to continue on in her name and kick everyone’s fucking ass, because that’s what she would do, too.”

After Doherty’s death, McGowan wrote on Instagram that she had “the heart of a lion” and described how the two actresses met in the ’90s and got to know each other better later in life.

Rose McGowan said Doherty had the “heart of a lion”. Warner Bros.

“Our lives were intertwined in a unique way,” McGowan said in her lengthy tribute.

“We laughed at dark forces that wanted us to hate each other, instead we chose love and respect. A soft-hearted daredevil like no other. An energy force that will live in hearts forever. May angels and God carry her to the holy kingdom where she will be healthy, young and fierce forever. Rest now warrior, we will never forget you, dear sister.”

Despite their dispute, Milano, 51, issued a statement to The Washington Post following Doherty’s death.

“It’s no secret that Shannen and I had a complicated relationship, but at the core, this was someone I deeply respected and was in awe of,” Milano said.

She added: “She was a talented actress, loved by many, and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her.”
