Here is the official song list for AV Undercover Season 9

We asked and you answered. Over Social media and right here in our comment section, The AV Club Readers submitted hundreds of suggestions for the songs that should be covered in the new edition of AV Undercover, now entering its ninth season.

We whittled down that list – no easy task considering how many great options we had – added some of our own suggestions, and settled on the 25 songs for season nine of AV Undercover. As in the past, the first band gets to choose from those 25 songs, and the song they cover is then crossed off the list. The second band gets to choose from 24 songs, and so on until the last remaining song is covered by the last band of the season. We’ll be recording these songs in various studios across the country over the coming months – and we’ll share the first song with you this week.

Something else that may sound familiar is my name. I was fortunate enough to work at The AV Club from 2015 to 2022, first as a Newswire Fellow, then as Associate Editor, and then for a few years as Head of TV before, well, you probably rememberEven when I got a job at polygon and led the late, great PrimetimerI was excited The AV Club to once again prioritize criticism over emigration and produce meaningful stories about the pop culture we care about, perhaps a Community Notification or two.

That day has come and I am so honored to not only be there to witness it, but to take the helm as the site’s new Editor in Chief. We have so much in store for you, our readers, who, along with the dedicated editorial staff, have kept AVC running. We already have brought back some well-known names and revived some of the our favorite seriesand you can look forward to seeing even more of the people and texts that The AV Club a must-see pop culture site. With 2004 Week upon us (the week of August 12th, to be precise), there is no better time to revisit some classics. But The AV Club is also known for having produced several generations of critics, and we want to keep that tradition alive by encouraging new voices on the site. We are also planning a return to Disqus, which will coincide with our launch on WordPress (don’t worry, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the comments to answer questions and identify technical issues). Even as we face the challenges of today’s media landscape, we will retain the core elements of The AV Clubincluding friendly expertise and an undaunted look.

I can’t wait to show you what we have planned, so stay tuned. I know the last few years have been particularly tough, but I’m grateful to the editors and to each and every reader who has stuck with us, shared in the good work that is still being done, and found comfort in each other. Let’s build something this summer.
