Impossible references in new action comedy

Tom Cruise allowed the use of Impossible mission References in ThelmaJune Squibb will play the eponymous character in the upcoming comedy, which premieres on June 21.



In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Margolin, the director of Thelma, talked about how they got Cruise to use Impossible mission material. “It came during production. We shot two versions of these scenes, one with Tom on (TV and newspapers) and one with an interchangeable green box. It went surprisingly smoothly,” he said. “Nicky Weinstock, a producer on the film, was at the same agency as him and has some friends there. In the end, we Send the scene in the script to give it some context and then an excerpt from the table. We got his approvaland then we went to Paramount, which I guess made things a lot easier there.”

The film is Squibb’s first leading role and Roundtree’s last appearance. The Wave The actor died at the end of last year. Thelma Parker Posey, Clark Gregg, Malcolm McDowell and Nicole Byer also star.


Thelma currently has a near-perfect score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The comedy has a new score of 99% based on nearly 99 reviews. Among the film’s praises is Joey Magidson of Awards Radar, who focuses on Thelma as “the sweetest mix of action, comedy and senior citizenship you’ll ever see.” Sara Clements of Pajiba writes: “It’s great fun to watch June Squibb forge her own path. Impossible missionwhile she laces up her orthopedic sneakers and puts her electric scooter into top gear to hunt down fraudsters. An absolute crowd favorite.”

Next Mission: Impossible film should be more than just a spy film

Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Actor Shea Whigham has hinted that the upcoming eighth installment in the long-running film series will be more than just an action spy movie. “People are going to be speechless,” Whigham said, revealing that Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie “made this movie like an adventure movie” rather than an action or spy movie.. “So it’s going to be great,” he enthused.
