Hempstead City Councilman Christopher Carini dies unexpectedly

The Seaford resident, a former police officer, was elected in 2019.

SEAFORD, NY — Hempstead Town Councilman Christopher Carini has died.

City Councilman Don Clavin announced the news on X on Monday morning.

“It is with great and deep sadness that I share today the news of the tragic death of our friend, Town of Hempstead Councilman Chris Carini. Councilman Carini was a dedicated public servant whose commitment to the communities he represented was unwavering.”

Carini has had a twenty-year career in law enforcement, serving as a police officer with the NYPD, MTA and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

He was elected to the 5th District of the City Council in 2019.

Congressman Anthony D’Esposito (R-Island Park) said he was “heartbroken” by Carini’s death.

“Chris was a tireless advocate for Town of Hempsteadpassionate activist, staunch supporter of law enforcement, loving friend, devoted husband and amazing father. This hurts and I will miss my friend,” D’Esposito wrote on X.

As his biography indicates, Carini was already active in the community before becoming politically active. His roles included vice president of the Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners’ Association and director of the Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners’ Neighborhood Watch Committee.

Carini leaves behind his wife Danielle and two children.
