Sarah Michelle Gellar encourages Shannen Doherty’s fans to “honor” the late actress after her death.

The star of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” posted a touching tribute on Instagram to her longtime friend, who lost her battle with breast cancer on Saturday.

“How do you even find the right words to sum up 30 years of friendship?” Gellar, 47, wrote on Monday. “I keep reminding myself that the only reason it hurts so much is because there was so much love.”

She thanked her followers for their “kind words and support” during the tragedy, adding: “I love all the messages about how important @theshando has been to you.”

“So let’s honor her,” the former “All My Children” star continued. “Shan loves animals more than anything, especially dogs. Let’s support our favorite animal welfare organizations in her memory.”

Gellar gushed that Doherty would be happy to “donate money, stop by a local animal shelter and just offer pets and walks to the animals there, or just tag her in the comments so other people can know about her work.”

The “I Know What You Did Last Summer” actress ended her post by noting that the actions would also “provoke that deep, throaty laugh we all love so much.”

Many of Doherty’s loved ones and former co-stars are mourning her on social media: from “Charmed” star Rose McGowan, who wrote that she “can’t stop crying,” to “Beverly Hills, 90210” actress Tori Spelling, who posted broken-heart emojis.

Doherty was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and two years later he announced that the disease was in remission.

However, the disease returned in 2019 at stage 4.

Doherty, who was 53 when she died, was honest about her battle with cancer until the end, sharing her “hopeful” feelings about chemotherapy in her final podcast episode, “Let’s Be Clear,” in June.

Gellar also gave occasional updates and stood by her friend during difficult times.

“She’s incredible,” she told Access Hollywood in 2023. “If you say she’s a warrior, she’s a warrior. She lives every day and she fights.”

“There are ups and downs, and there are days that are harder than others and there are days that are easier, but she’s doing great.”

The friends even quarantined together during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with Gellar’s husband Freddie Prinze Jr. and their two children, 14-year-old daughter Charlotte and 11-year-old son Rocky.
