Weather warning

AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECTIVE MONDAY 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an air quality health alert for the following counties from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. EDT (Sunday): New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam. The alert is in effect until 11:00 a.m. EDT (local time). Outdoor air quality is expected to exceed the air quality index for the pollutant ground-level ozone of 100. The air quality index (AQI) is designed to easily correlate levels of different pollutants on a scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health risk. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of negative health effects. People who are particularly sensitive to elevated pollutant levels include the very young and those with existing respiratory conditions such as asthma or heart disease. People with symptoms should see their primary care physician. To help New York residents stay informed about air quality, a toll-free air quality hotline has been established. The toll-free number is 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.
