“Game of Thrones” star Ian Gelder receives tribute after his death

Ben Daniels of “The Crown” has paid an emotional tribute to his husband, actor Ian Gelder, following his death at the age of 74.

Gelder, who played Kevan Lannister in Game of Thrones, died on Monday (May 6) after being diagnosed with bile duct cancer in December.

On Instagram, Daniels, who was with Gelder for over 30 years, wrote: “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart broken into a million pieces that I leave this post to announce the passing of my beloved husband and life partner, Ian Gelder.”

Daniels explained that after the diagnosis, he gave up work to care for his partner, but “none of us imagined it would all happen so quickly.”

“He was my rock and we were partners for over 30 years,” Daniels continued.

“When we weren’t together, we talked every day. He was the kindest, most generous and loving person.

“He was a wonderful, wonderful actor and everyone who worked with him was touched by his heart and his light. I honestly don’t know what I would do without him by my side.

“He faced his terrible illness with such bravery, without self-pity. Ever. He was remarkable and we will miss him very much.”

Daniels had shared a photo of the smiling couple in front of a Christmas tree, adding: “This picture was taken at Christmas time after I got him out of the hospital and even though he had the worst three weeks there, you can still see his joy and love shining through.”

“Rest well, my sweet Chianni. Xxxx.”

Gelder was also known for his role as Zellin in the 12th series of Doctor Who alongside Jodie Whittaker. His television career began in 1972 with a one-episode role in the ITV series New Scotland Yard.
