Chris Cornell’s brother clings to “pain”

Chris Cornell’s brother has reconnected with some family members following the “horror” of his sibling’s death.
Peter Cornell has spoken out about the death of the Soundgarden frontman, who hanged himself in his Detroit hotel room in May at the age of 52. He admitted that he has become more “compassionate” since the star’s death and is “absorbing the pain” of losing the star because he refuses to let him go.
In an emotional letter posted on his Facebook account, he wrote: “My friends:
Once again you humble me with your kindness, empathy, love and support.
Although I have stepped away from social media, I have still been able to catch a glimpse of the selfless ways in which so many people around the world continue to honor and pay tribute to my brother.
I really couldn’t believe how you took the message of doing push-ups for suicide prevention and spread it. Please don’t stop. What a devastating way to open my eyes to how many lives around me and all of us are affected by such a tragedy. I hope that in the future we can talk more openly about prevention. Remove the stigma that discussing suicide is like talking about a dirty little secret. If only… what I would give to have had even the tiniest glimpse of that awareness in early May.
I can’t deny the pain of this loss. In a way, I cling to it. I refuse to let go because I want to keep my little brother close, even if only memories remain. At least we are rich in memories. I replay them all too often, starting with our childhood and reliving the glory that was Seattle in the 90s.
This grieving process has connected me to so many other grieving hearts and souls. As I said, my brother was part of the world and so many were crushed by the weight of his death. I have revived this FB page to return the compassion you have shown me from the first moments after this tragedy… THANK YOU and THANK YOU AGAIN!!! If it is possible to walk this path a little softer, it is only because I did not have to walk it alone.
Compassion is like a new word to me these days. This horror has connected me to a family I haven’t known for many, many years. It’s a bittersweet connection that is equal parts reliving the devastation and lovingly tearing down the fences that have separated us for so long. Compassion gives me the ability to feel their loss, just as you and I have felt for each other. In a way, my family lost my brother twice. That is a burden I don’t share with them. I have gained new ears and hopefully a bigger heart. (sic)”
Peter also used the note to denounce conspiracy theorists and honor Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington, who took his own life under similar circumstances just two months after the Audioslave singer’s death.
He added, “I miss my interaction with YOU, but taking a break from social media helps me not to constantly pick at the wound. It is unfortunate that the social media platform that allows us to share our grief and healing with one another is also becoming a forum for conspiracy theories and absurd conjecture that defy all decency and continually seek to blur the facts. The entities fueling these paths of chaos are self-serving at best. When is enough enough? Isn’t it time my brother was allowed to rest in peace? Haven’t the children endured more than any child ever, ever, ever should endure?
Much love to ALL of you!!! Hold tight to your families. May we all find peace
Goodnight, Chester. Goodnight, brother. PC (sic)”
Chris’ widow Vicky recently asked fans to send tributes to the late star, which will be posted on his official website.
