In his book, Mike Reiss offers decades of insight, including his take on Elizabeth Taylor’s brief but meaningful cameo as the voice of Maggie in 1992. Taylor was tasked with recording one line. More specifically, she was tasked with recording one word: “Daddy.” This was, of course, in the context of a baby speaking to his father for the first time, and so had to be as sweet and heartwarming as possible. Unfortunately, Taylor was initially unable to distinguish between this more wholesome approach and a, shall we say, more seductive version. As Reiss writes:

“Liz caused the most excitement of all the guests we’ve had on the show. Three hundred people filled our little studio to hear her record her one-word part: ‘Daddy.’ She had to take six tries because, as you can imagine, it always sounded too sexy. We had to remind her that she was a baby talking to her daddy, not flirting with him.”

Because Taylor is a professional and the Simpsons writers were clearly not willing to waste Liz Taylor’s one line trying to make Maggie seem inappropriately sexy, the line was eventually recorded to the satisfaction of the production team – but not before Taylor took the opportunity to actually hit on one of the three hundred people who were in the studio that day…
