At Nickelodeon, fans see twice as much Dora!

Kathleen Herles, who played the character on the children’s show from 2000 to 2007, teamed up with Dora’s new voice actress Diana Zermeño for an Instagram reel in which she shows off her best Dora manners. In the 2024 reboot of the educational program – titled Dora — Herles, 33, speaks as Mami, the mother of Zermeños Dora.

At the beginning of the video, Herles joked: “I am Dora’s voice! Of course I grew up to lend my voice to her mother in the new show.”

The clip also shows Herles and 11-year-old Zermeño sharing habits they’ve picked up as Dora’s voice actresses, from using their intonation in everyday situations to pausing to wait for an audience reaction.

Under the reel, Nickelodeon wrote: “The new voice of Dora and the original voice of Dora collided… of course it was epic!”

Dora the Explorer ran on Nickelodeon from August 2000 to 2019. The series focused on the adventures of a young Latina named Dora Márquez and her monkey friend Boots and aimed to teach its young audience basic Spanish words.

Herles opened in a 2024 WashingtonPost Interview about her role as an important part of many childhoods. She admitted: “Since I was seven, I had this identity as Dora – I didn’t know who I was outside of it.”

She remembers that “all the memories came flooding back” when she got the role of mommy.

“I remember going into the booth for the first time to record for the show when I was 7 years old, and I never felt so confident,” she said.
