Rating the Phillies’ last 5 first-round draft picks

With the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft approaching, it’s time for the Philadelphia Phillies’ front office and scouting department to dig deep and find the next top talent who will one day don the red pinstripes.

After a string of disappointing selections, the Phillies appear to be back on track with their recent early-round picks. Players like Aaron Nola, JP Crawford and Mickey Moniak have all contributed to the team, whether through their play in Philadelphia or the value they gained through trades. Anytime a player is selected in the draft, they add value to the team, whether in the traditional way of growing from within or as an expendable asset that can bring more success.

The Phillies will pick late in the first round at No. 27 due to their run to the National League Championship Series. Although they are ranked far back in the first round, there is still plenty of value as evidenced by last year’s selection in the same spot. The Phillies will have $7,381,800 in bonus pool money, with their first-round spot value being $3,228,300.

The 2024 MLB Draft begins at 7 p.m. ET, with the first two rounds taking place Sunday night. Check out our Phillies Draft Guide for all the details you need to follow the draft.

Looking back at the Phillies’ last five first-round picks, it’s important to note that many of them are undecided. They seem to have great potential and could be valuable in the future, but have not been so. Most rankings are based on the progress they made after joining the Phillies organization.

Each player brings a unique value and skill set to the team, and ratings are based on the individual player, his selection, and the circumstances he is in. For younger players, ratings are subject to fluctuation, as the minor league landscape can change drastically overnight.
