Michigan State Basketball offers elite PG Jonathan Sanderson from the state

The Michigan State University basketball team is on the hunt for players again this month because, well, there’s nothing else to do but focus on performing at Moneyball.

Tom Izzo has been working hard this summer to meet his recruiting goals for the 2025 class while also preparing an early board for 2026. He hasn’t received any commitments for 2025 yet, but he’s still looking ahead to 2026 to make sure he doesn’t miss out on some of the top targets, especially in his own backyard.

On Friday, the Hall of Fame head coach offered a scholarship to one of the state’s most promising young talents for the class of 2026, Jonathan Sanderson.

The four-star point guard from Saline, Michigan, is the 49th-ranked prospect in the Class of 2026 and the No. 7 prospect according to the 247Sports Composite. He is also Michigan State’s second-best prospect behind Brother Rice’s Elijah Williams, a five-star small forward ranked No. 10 nationally.

In addition to the Spartans, Sanderson also has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Michigan.

Michigan State has officially offered just three players for the 2026 class, and two of them are now point guards. And Izzo is using his newest assistant here, as 247Sports says Saddi Washington is the primary recruiter for Sanderson.

The class of 2026 is still a long way off, and Izzo still has to sign a few guys for 2025 before he can fully focus on that cycle, but it’s nice to see him looking for some of the top talent, especially a guy from his state who is ranked in the top 50 nationally.
