Superman’s career as a man of steel brings great conflicts

Superman’s career as a man of steel brings great conflicts

The following contains major spoilers for “Love at Work” Action Comics #1067, on sale now at DC Comics.

Superman has just been excluded from the most important part of his day job and it’s all thanks to Lois Lane.

In “Love at Work,” Lois Lane and Clark Kent enter the offices of the Daily Planet for another day’s work. While Clark is ready for the day ahead, Lois can’t bear the thought that she might not be cut out for the job of editor-in-chief. In addition to dealing with the day-to-day business that comes with such a position, Lois must make difficult decisions that no one could have prepared her for, including pulling Clark away from his usual reporting on his own super-powered alter ego.

Metropolis’ leading newspaper, the Daily Planet, is part of the larger Superman Myth since its first appearance in the 1940s Action Comics #23 in Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster’s story “Superman: Europe at War (Part II).” Aside from being one of the landmarks of Metropolis, the offices are also the workplace of Clark Kent in his role as an otherwise ordinary reporter, not to mention the workplace of his closest allies Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane.

Although Perry White has served as editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet in numerous versions of the DC Universe, the title was recently passed on to Lois Lane. After years of tireless work as one of the Daily Planet’s top reporters, Lois seemed the obvious candidate for the job. At the same time, Lois’ own concerns about whether she was the right person for the position didn’t help the transition.
