Potentially ‘serious’ problem leads to recall of Walmart’s own-brand nuts in 30 states

Nuts sold by Walmart online and in 30 states have been recalled due to a mislabeling issue that can lead to a much more serious problem.

Cans labeled “Great Value Honey Roasted Cashews” may contain coconut cashews. Coconut cashews contain coconut and milk, both allergens that are not found in the Honey Roasted Cashew flavor. So coconut and milk would not be listed as allergens in the ingredients on these cans.

For most people, eating cashews just puts an unexpected taste in their mouth. However, as the recall notice released by the FDA states, “People who are allergic or highly sensitive to coconut or milk are at risk of experiencing a severe or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.”
