‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ cast react to Shannen Doherty’s death

Shannen Doherty was a valued member of the “Beverly Hills, 90210” family.

After Doherty died of cancer on Saturday at the age of 53, the cast of the hit teen drama series remembered their late co-star on social media.

Brian Austin Green, Jason Priestley and Gabrielle Carteris were among the stars who made emotional statements in Doherty’s honor.

Doherty starred in the Fox show as Brenda Walsh, a brunette teenage actress trying to find her place in blonde Beverly Hills after moving with her family from Minnesota.

She left the show after season 4 in 1994.

Co-star Tori Spelling later admitted she had a hand in Doherty’s firing. She said she went to her father Aaron Spelling, who co-created the show and was an executive producer, in 2015 and told him that Doherty was not getting along with co-star Jennie Garth.

In 2000, Doherty told Entertainment Weekly that the show was “too big a sacrifice” at the time.

“The victim of a camera pointed at my face 24 hours a day while I was desperately trying to grow up, understand my spirituality, meet my friends. I mean, I was a teenager,” she recalls.

Doherty later reunited with most of her cast members for the parody show “BH90210” in 2019.

That same year, Luke Perry, who played Doherty’s love interest Dylan McKay in the series, died of a stroke at the age of 52.

Doherty became emotional when she spoke about Perry’s death on “Beverly Hills, 90210” Panel at MegaCon Orlando in February.

“It was a shock,” she said. “I always get very emotional when someone mentions Luke because as a cancer patient – and a really bad stage four cancer – I thought I would be the first to go. When it was Luke, it really threw me off track.”

Following Doherty’s death, the cast of “Beverly Hills, 90210” honored the popular actress on social media.

To me she will always be #brendawalsh and I will forever be grateful that our paths crossed on this journey. Rest in peace dear Shannen… the night sky is brighter when you are present among the stars.”
