Pete Alonso won’t be the only player representing the New York Mets during the All-Star Game festivities in Arlington, Texas.
On Sunday, veteran infielder José Iglesias, who performed under the pseudonym Candelita, announced he was heading to Texas — but not as an All-Star. Iglesias, a Latin pop star on and off the field, will sing his hit song “OMG” during this week’s All-Star festivities.
He told reporters on Sunday that he had received an invitation and would travel to Texas after New York’s series finale against the Colorado Rockies.
“I’ll be in Texas,” Iglesias said. “I’ve had the privilege of making a couple of All-Stars as a player and now as a singer. I’m very proud of that. Thanks for the invite. I’ll be heading there after the game.”

The 34-year-old Iglesias was an All-Star with the Detroit Tigers in 2015.
He has been a real force to be reckoned with since arriving in Queens. Entering Sunday, he had a batting average of .347/.380/.560 with three home runs and an OPS of .940.
Additionally, “OMG” topped the charts and was a hit with his teammates. It became a rallying cry for the team during its recent winning streak, helping them secure a wild card spot — for now. Iglesias recently performed an impromptu postgame concert, and after he rounded the bases on Friday following the first career game with multiple home runs, the Mets played his music video on the big screen.

It’s nice to see the Mets and Major League Baseball enjoying this incredible moment so much as they try to move the game forward, especially considering Iglesias signed a minor league deal with the Mets and has enjoyed a career renaissance since moving up to the major leagues.
