John Harbaugh: Jacoby Jones’ spirit, enthusiasm and love for people were impressive

The Ravens and head coach John Harbaugh have each released a statement on the death of Jacoby Jones.

Jones played for Baltimore from 2012 to 2014 and was instrumental in the club’s postseason run, eventually winning Super Bowl XLVII.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jacoby Jones,” the Ravens’ statement said. “Jacoby had a unique ability to connect with everyone he met. His charisma, joy and love created a unique presence that could light up any room or brighten any dark day.”

“Jacoby will long be remembered not only for his success on the football field, but for the lasting personal connections he made with countless people in the Ravens organization, the Baltimore community and all the areas he called home.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Jacoby’s family as we all begin to process this devastating loss.”

“I loved Jacoby Jones. We all loved him,” Harbaugh said in his statement. “His spirit, enthusiasm and love for people were powerful. He was a beacon of light. He was the beloved son of his loving mother, Ms. Emily. They were so close. He was a man of faith.”

“My favorite play in football was when Jacoby was talking to his mom in the end zone right before a kickoff return against the Vikings in a blizzard shootout. Jacoby then ran to catch the ball and run it back for a touchdown.

“My favorite personal Jacoby moment was every time I saw his smiling face full of joy. Rest in peace, Jacoby, in the arms of Jesus.”

Jones caught 76 passes for 992 yards and scored three touchdowns in 44 regular season games for the Ravens. He was also a prolific returner, returning four kickoffs for touchdowns and one punt for a touchdown during the regular season. Jones also had a legendary 108-yard kickoff return that helped Baltimore defeat San Francisco in Super Bowl XLVII.
