‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ cast mourns Shannen Doherty after her death

Shannen Doherty’s Beverly Hills, 90210 Colleagues pay tribute to the actress after her death at the age of 53.

Doherty, who bravely battled cancer for years before dying on Saturday, July 13, was a pop culture icon for her starring roles in the 1988 cult classic Heather and the successful WB show from 1998 Charmed. But it was her portrayal of Brenda Walsh in 90210 — which she played from 1990 to 1994 — for which she will be most remembered.

Jason Priestley, who played Brenda’s twin brother Brandon Walsh, was one of the first 90210 The cast paid public tribute to Doherty after her death.

“I am shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of my friend Shannen. She was a force of nature and I will miss her,” the actor wrote on Sunday, July 14, just hours after Doherty’s publicist announced the actress’ death. “Sending love and light to her family during this dark time.” Priestley shared the tribute via Instagram along with a photo of him and Doherty in their roles as the Walsh twins.

Carol Potter, who played Brenda and Brandon’s mother Cindy Walsh, also paid tribute to Doherty on social media.

“Shocked and saddened by the news of Shannon Doherty’s (sic) passing. What a journey she has been on! Gone too soon,” Potter wrote on Instagram on Sunday. “She stayed true to herself throughout and gave us an example of courage and perseverance in dealing with her own death. May she rest in peace.”

Gabrielle Carteris, who played Andrea Zuckerman in the long-running series, also mourned Doherty.

“So young – so sad. May you rest in peace Shannon (sic),” Carteris wrote. “I know Luke (Perry) is there with open arms to love you.”

Both Carteris and Potter shared photos of the sky in their tributes.

Doherty’s longtime press agent announced the news of her client’s death in a statement on Sunday, July 14.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the death of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after battling the disease for many years,” said Doherty’s spokeswoman Leslie Sloane People. “The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones and her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”

Doherty’s death comes five years after the death of her 90210 Co-star and on-screen love interest Luke Perry. The actor, who played Dylan McKay in the popular series, died of a stroke in 2019. He was 52 years old.
