Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the party for her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, Charlize Theron confirmed that she has seen the film. For the prequel, director George Miller decided to cast a younger actress rather than ask Charlize Theron to come back to tell the origin story of Imperator Furiosa. Thankfully, the original actress was happy with Taylor-Joy’s performance.

The actor believes his time with the post-apocalyptic action franchise is over.

“It’s incredible, it’s a beautiful film”, Theron said of the film, confirming that she has seen it. The film was received very positively, with critics raving about the new installment in the popular franchise, as well as the performance of lead actors Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, who played Warlord Dementus.

When asked if she had spoken to Taylor-Joy about the role since the casting or the release of the role, Theron explained that she had not spoken to her yet, but not because she had not tried. “No, we really tried to make a connection. It was one of those things that you could actually make a comedy out of. We’re constantly running into each other and we’re in places where we don’t have time to really talk to each other. So we keep saying, “Oh my God, okay, let’s get together!” And then life takes over. But it will happen if it is right.”

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment also announces plans to release the Furiosa Black & Chrome Edition and a new Mad Max 5-movie box set later this year.

Imperator Furiosa was not a box office hit

Mad Max is a huge blockbuster franchise that made millions at the box office. Unfortunately, the new installment failed to live up to expectations and underperformed at the box office despite its incredible reviews. The film was one of the most anticipated projects of the year, especially after Mad Max: Fury Road had sold millions and generated many positive reactions.

However, the reality did not quite match expectations. FuriousCritical reactions were encouraging, with the film being awarded “Certified Fresh.” Rotten Tomatoes with 90% rating from criticsand 89% from the audience. However, the good reviews and the hype surrounding the performances of Anya Taylor Joy and Chris Hemsworth did not quite match the box office figures.

Furious had a surprisingly low opening weekend, grossing only $66 million worldwide in its first weekend. With a very generous budget of $168 million, the film would have had to gross at least double that amount to make a profit. Unfortunately Furious never got the chance, as it finished its run with a disappointing total of 172.7 million US dollars worldwide (about the numbers).

The prequel was recently successful as VOD after its disastrous box office success. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD starting August 13th, and there are currently no official dates for when the film will be available for streaming.
