Viola Davis, Katie Couric and other stars honor Shannen Doherty after her death

Shannen Doherty will be remembered throughout Hollywood.

Several celebrities paid tribute to the Charmed And Beverly Hills, 90210 Star over the weekend after her longtime publicist Leslie Sloane confirmed exclusively to PEOPLE that the actress died on Saturday, July 13, after years of living with cancer.

Since Doherty’s death, both those who knew her and those who were fans of her work have taken to social media to share messages and memories of the late actress. Among them, Viola Davis left a comment under PEOPLE’s Instagram post about Doherty’s death, reacting to the news.

“Oh man! So sad. Rest in peace❤,” wrote the Oscar winner.

Other reactions to PEOPLE’s post came from Olivia Munn, who shared a few broken heart emojis, and Kristin Chenoweth, who wrote, “Fly with the angels, sweet precious soul!”

Katie Couric also paid tribute to the star by posting a carousel of pictures of the star – including a shot of the two hugging at an event.

“I am so sad to hear this news,” she wrote.

Those who played alongside Doherty also made their own statements on social media.

Eric West, who worked with the late star on “The 2021” fortresswrote on X (formerly Twitter) that his “heart was broken.”

“It was a pleasure to meet Shannen Doherty a little over two years ago while filming our movie Fortess,” the actor wrote. “She was full of warm energy and positivity. So young. So talented. May she rest in peace.”

Doherty’s death follows years of the actress living with cancer. In 2023, she spoke to PEOPLE about her breast cancer, which had since spread to her bones.

In her Instagram story, Munn – who spoke to PEOPLE earlier this year about her own breast cancer diagnosis – wrote that she was “absolutely heartbroken” over Doherty’s death.

“When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I remember how bravely she shared her journey with the world and reached out to them,” Munn wrote. “We became friends immediately – which, to be honest, I sometimes couldn’t understand because she was on 90210 was everything to me when I was 10.”

The actress then described how the couple “became connected by a shared struggle and a desire to help other women.”

“Looking back to the last text she sent me a few months ago, she asked how I was doing and if there was anything she could do for me,” Munn wrote. “As expected, Shannen offered her support despite being in the final stages of battling this horrible disease… Cancer is really damn scary and Shannen faced it with such dignity, strength and grace.”

“Sending all my love to her mother who has been her best friend, hero and champion every step of the way,” she added. “Fly so high, my friend.”
