Zonta Club of Hilo awards ,400 in scholarships to women: Big Island Now

“The Zonta Club of Hilo is very pleased to award over $15,000 in scholarships to eight women for the year 2024,” said outgoing Scholarship Committee Chair Nina Buchanan.

The recipients of the Women’s Nursing Degree Scholarship from the University of Hawaii at Hilo are Amy Bye ($2,000), Amanda Gill ($2,000), and Miriam Martinez ($2,000).

The recipients of the Women’s Nursing Degree Scholarship from Hawai’i Community College are Iliana Jose ($2,000), Ericka Paiva ($2,000), and Yuwei Wang ($2,000).

The recipient of the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship is Tehya Thome ($1,200).

The winner of the Young Woman in Public Affairs Award is Maiyah Panis-Vuong ($2,200).

Panis-Vuong and Thome, winners in the Jane M. Klausman and Young Woman in Public Affairs categories, were promoted from the club level and will now compete for additional awards and scholarships at the Zonta district and international levels.
