Mohamed Salah is back at Liverpool FC today (Wednesday), just days after it became clear that he will not be sold this summer despite his contract situation.

The Egypt international has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield and there has been plenty of speculation linking him with a move away as Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad continue to show interest after a massive £150million offer was rejected last summer.

Liverpool are believed to be trying to convince Salah to stay on Merseyside beyond 2025, but they risk losing the 32-year-old for free next summer if they fail to persuade the striker to agree to a new contract.

But despite the threat that Salah could leave on a free transfer, new Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes – who, alongside Michael Edwards and Julian Ward, is also responsible for the future of Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold – has given the clearest indication that the Reds’ number 11 will not be sold.

“We expect all three to stay fully at Liverpool next season,” Hughes said, indirectly ruling out a sale of Salah in the summer.

This attitude will of course be music to the ears of new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot, who can plan for the 2024–25 season knowing that one of Europe’s most prolific strikers remains.

Indeed, with the addition of Salah and experienced midfielder Wataru Endo, the Dutchman can enter the next phase of his club’s pre-season.

Salah’s return date confirmed

As confirmed by the club, the two players are due to return to the club’s training ground this morning for tests and are expected to take part in pre-season training with their teammates later in the week.

“Wataru Endo and Mohamed Salah will begin pre-season training at the AXA Training Centre on Wednesday,” a statement said.

“The duo will report tomorrow morning to start work for 2024-25 together with those who started preparations last Friday under Arne Slot.

“Endo and Salah will undergo tests before joining their teammates for training later in the week.”

As part of its US tour, Liverpool will face Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United before facing Sevilla away at newly promoted Ipswich Town in their final warm-up game before their Premier League opener on August 17.
