Egyptian Foreign Minister discusses Gaza war with French Middle East adviser

CAIRO – July 14, 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expats Badr Abdel Aty received on Saturday French Presidential Advisor for the Middle East Anne-Claire Legendre to discuss current developments on the Gaza war.

Minister Abdel Aty presented the mediation efforts with Qatar and the United States, as well as Egypt’s intensive efforts to provide humanitarian aid while bypassing the obstacles erected by Israel.

Lengendre, for his part, highlighted France’s efforts to create an international dynamic in support of the Palestinian cause. In this context, the Foreign Minister stressed that this must necessarily include the establishment of a Palestinian state within the borders of June 4, 1967, in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.

In a similar context, Minister Abdel Aty expressed Egypt’s growing concern over the escalation in southern Lebanon and called for the Gaza war to be contained so that its effects do not spread to other areas of the region and increase the scale of the conflict, as it has already reached the Red Sea.

In this context, the minister stressed the importance of holding presidential elections in Lebanon, which could be facilitated by an agreement between various political powers and through the mediation of the five Lebanese states, consisting of the United States, France, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt.
