“Thank you for your love and prayers for my father and the other victims of today’s senseless violence in Butler, Pennsylvania,” Ivanka wrote on X.

“I am grateful to the Secret Service and all other law enforcement officers for their quick and decisive actions today. I continue to pray for our country,” she said, adding, “I love you, Dad, today and always.”

Crooks was killed by Secret Service snipers and an AR rifle was confiscated. The FBI has not yet found a motive for the attack.

“He showed the toughness that people like”

Meanwhile, New York State Republican Chairman Ed Cox has said Trump’s response to the attack will earn him respect. “The American people have seen what Donald Trump is made of. This will give us new momentum,” said Cox, the son-in-law of the late President Richard Nixon, according to the New York Post.

Cox said the incident reminded him of the time former President Theodore Roosevelt was shot during a speech in 1912. “He showed the toughness that people like. You can only admire that. You can hear him saying after he was shot, ‘Fight, fight. Keep fighting,'” Cox said, adding that “the whole nation” will be watching Trump’s nomination speech, scheduled for this week.

“President Biden spoke with former President Trump”

In another development, a spokesperson said in an official White House statement that Joe Biden has been in touch with Trump following the incident. He is also cutting short his beach weekend to return to Washington DC.

“This evening, President Biden spoke with former President Trump. The President also spoke with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Butler Mayor Bob Dandoy. This evening, the President returns to Washington, DC. He will receive an updated briefing from Homeland Security and law enforcement officials at the White House tomorrow morning,” the White House said.
