Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has downplayed his US counterpart Joe Biden’s faux pas during the NATO summit as a mere “mistake” after arriving in Ireland.
On the last day of the NATO summit, Biden accidentally introduced the Ukrainian president as “President Putin,” but then quickly corrected himself. Zelenskyy responded at the time: “I’m better.”
Speaking to reporters at Shannon Airport in County Clare, Zelensky described the faux pas as a simple “mistake.”
“I think the United States has given a lot of support to the Ukrainians,” he said. “We can forget some mistakes, I think.”
He was later photographed hugging Irish Taoiseach Simon Harris as the two held a meeting at the airport.
Poland had previously stated that it was examining Kiev’s proposal to shoot down Russian missiles flying towards Polish territory while they were still in Ukrainian airspace.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski told the American Enterprise Institute in Washington that such a step was being considered, but only with NATO’s approval.
Warsaw, a member of the alliance, regularly alerts fighter jets to protect Polish airspace, while Russian forces launch large-scale air strikes on Ukraine.

Biden mistakenly calls Zelenskyj “Putin” when introduced at NATO summit
At the NATO summit in Washington, DC, President Joe Biden made a major slip-up when he called Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky “President Putin” during his introduction. Biden quickly realized his error and returned to the podium to correct himself: “President Putin? He’s going to beat President Putin. President Zelensky. I’m so focused on beating Putin.” After passing the floor to the Ukrainian president, Zelensky responded to the slip-up: “I’m better.” “You’re a hell of a lot better,” President Biden said.
