Mayor of KingstownSeason 3 is underway, but anticipation for Season 4 is already building. While there has been no confirmation from Paramount+ of a follow-up season, recent comments from star Taylor Handley (who plays Kyle McLusky in the series) certainly sound promising for the future of the show. While speaking to Screen Rant, Handley shared:

“I think everything is really positive right now. I know everyone is excited about the show. It’s beyond my expertise to know anything about it or have any solid information. But from what I’m hearing, everything sounds positive.”

As part of Taylor Sheridan’s expanding Paramount+ universe and co-created by Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, Mayor of Kingstown delves into the dark underworld of a fictional town, Kingstown, Michigan, where the prison industry is the only thriving business. The story revolves around the McLusky family, who act as power brokers and mediators between the various factions in Kingstown. Jeremy Renner plays Mike McLusky, nicknamed “The Mayor” due to his unofficial role in maintaining order. Kyle McLusky, played by Handley, is the youngest of the McLusky brothers who has a complex relationship with his family and is torn between loyalty and his moral compass.

Mayor of Kingstown has never been a critics’ darling, but the current season has made a significant jump in acclaim, currently sitting at 71% approval on Rotten Tomatoes. The show — the first season of which has a 33% rating on the review aggregator — has found its place over time. Despite the mixed reviews, viewers love the series (even if they don’t know exactly what’s going on) as the show has a high viewership rating, making it one of Paramount+’s top shows.

Season 3 of Mayor of Kingstown follows Renner’s traumatic snow plowing accident on January 1, 2023, in which he suffered 38 broken bones and a ruptured lung. Renner returned to set after months of recovery, but it hasn’t been smooth sailing. The actor recently shared that he realized he was overworked while filming the current season. Despite his understandable difficulties, Renner’s portrayal of the series’ title character is being praised by critics and audiences (FandomWire’s review of season 3 states that Renner “stands out among the cast, bringing some of his best work to the screen”).
