Kevin Costner turned down Chris Hemsworth to cast himself in a new romance film

Chris Hemsworth has revealed that he was recently denied the opportunity to direct a project directed by Kevin Costner because Costner cast himself in the role.

“There was a movie, a script that I had read and I liked, and I thought, ‘I want that,’ and then someone said, ‘Kevin Costner has that (role),'” Hemsworth said. Entertainment tonight.

“I’d love to have him as a director. I was like, ‘Damn it!’ I spent an hour trying to convince him the other day and he just said, ‘I’ll do it, boy.’ It didn’t work. I didn’t get the part.”

Without giving too much away, the Thor The 40-year-old star described the film as “abstract and interesting… a little story about a man and a woman.”

He said that “horses are involved” because the character is a “horse driver,” which is one of the reasons he wanted to be involved in the project.

“My wife read (the script) and she loves horses,” Hemsworth added. “We have 10 or 11 horses at home and she always says, ‘You have to do this.'”

When asked why he turned down Hemsworth for the role, Costner joked: ET: “Chris – he’s starting something against me.

“It’s a love story, but as long as I’m young enough to play it, I’ll play it. Chris will have to wait his turn.”

“(Hemsworth) is so good looking and he’s so good. He needs to find his (own) love story. (But) I’m glad he likes this one. If I get to a point where I (don’t) think I could do that, I would (contact him). He’s certainly one of our great leading men right now.”

According to IMDb, Costner currently has four new projects in the works, two of which are parts of his western epic horizonLast week it was announced that Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 would premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month.

The two-part western directed by Costner and starring him will also mark the acting debut of Yellowstone the actor’s 15-year-old son, Hayes.

“I kind of did it on purpose so he could hang out with me,” Costner said People to cast his son. “And the same goes for Cayden, the same goes for Grace. I’m like any other parent, I’m trying to figure out, like, ‘This is really great. You should come to me.'”

Costner, 69, has seven children, three of whom – Lily, Joe and Annie – are with his first wife Cindy Costner. He has another son, Liam, with Bridget Rooney, whom he dated after divorcing Cindy in 1994. He remarried actress Christine Baumgartner in 2004, but the couple divorced earlier this year. The former couple have three children together: Cayden Wyatt, Logan Hayes and Grace.
