Fitness star remembers cancer diagnosis

On March 19, 2024, Richard announced in a long Facebook post that he had been diagnosed with skin cancer.

“I sat in his chair and he looked at it through a magnifying mirror. He told me he had to scrape it off and put it under the microscope,” he recalled.

“Now I’m getting a little nervous. About 20 minutes later he comes back and says the word with a C. ‘You have cancer.'”

He was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer.

Simmons appeared on television several times

Simmons increased his appeal through frequent appearances on television and radio shows as well as through participation in commercials.

His media appearances included appearances on The Late Show With David Letterman and The Howard Stern Show.

He also appeared in the long-running television series “General Hospital” and “Arrested Development.”

Speaking about his now-closed gym, Richard told his fans via Facebook: “When I opened Slimmons in 1974, I couldn’t wait to tell everyone that food could be healthy AND delicious or that exercise could be fun!

“I took off my little striped shorts to spread the message that you need to exercise every day, that portion size matters, and that even though others may not always be kind to you, you need to be kind to yourself.

“I have made countless friends along the way and hope that I have changed some people’s lives for the better.”

He added: “You know, I’ve always said I’m with you every step of the way.

“And you were always with me, by my side, in happy times and in sad times.

“We laughed and cried together and have memories that will last ten lifetimes.”Play video

Simmons was previously diagnosed with cancer

Simmons announced on social media that he had been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer.

The fitness star said he went to a dermatologist after discovering a bump under his eye that wouldn’t go away.

“Now I get a little nervous. About 20 minutes later he comes back and says the word with a c. ‘You have cancer,'” he recalls.

“I asked him what kind of cancer and he said basal cell carcinoma. I told him to stop calling me names. He laughed.”
