Michigan Football signs Class of 2025 receiver from Louisiana

The Michigan football program has added another offensive weapon to its 2025 recruiting class.

Three-star receiver Phillip Wright of Destrehan, Louisiana, announced his commitment to the Wolverines on Saturday, becoming the 16th verbal commitment to Sherrone Moore’s program this cycle. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound player chose Michigan despite 14 other offers, including finalists Georgia and LSU.

He is ranked as the No. 540 most promising prospect nationally according to the 247Sports Composite System.

With Wright, the Wolverines have two receivers and three players from Louisiana this cycle. Jacob Washington, the four-star prospect from Marrero (Louisiana) Archbishop Shaw and teammate of three-star running back Jasper Parker, is 6-foot-3 and a traditional outside receiver, while Wright is expected to play in the slot.

Wright, a standout track and field athlete whose greatest asset is his speed, visited all three finalists in the past month, including Michigan on June 14. The Wolverines offered Wright an offer last November.

Michigan’s interest in receivers in Louisiana is no surprise, as position coach Ron Bellamy is from Louisiana. The Wolverines have signed 10 of their 16 new recruits this cycle since June. Their class was ranked 12th nationally before Saturday.
