About the Porterville Barn Theater:

The Barn Theater is a community theater in Porterville, California. Since 1948, it has presented local performances by volunteers. The Barn’s origins lie in the inventive minds of a small group of people who loved the theater. The idea of starting a theater here came from Peter Tewksbury, a World War II veteran who came to Porterville with his wife, Kit, after unsuccessfully trying to make a career in New York. After organizing and promoting the Barn Theater during its first few seasons, Tewksbury went to Hollywood, where he became a successful director of both television and motion pictures. Peter Tewskbury died on February 20, 2003 at the age of 79.
