Famous fitness presenter Richard Simmons has died at the age of 76.

Simmons was found unconscious in his home in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, California, two police sources told NBC News – the US partner of Sky News.

He was found on Saturday, one day after his 76th birthday.

The US news channel TMZ reported that police believe the death was from natural causes.

On Friday, Simmons shared a message on social media thanking his fans for their birthday wishes: “Thank you… I have never had so many messages on my birthday in my life! I’m sitting here writing emails. Have a wonderful rest of your Friday. Love, Richard.”

Before Simmons disappeared from public view, he worked as an instructor and motivator for over 40 years.

Earlier this year, he announced in a series of social media posts that he had been diagnosed with skin cancer.
