Summertime Songs: The ultimate playlists for the summer holidays

Summer has arrived in the Northern Hemisphere and for many people, putting together a playlist to spread the summer spirit is a pleasure. Whether listening to it on the car stereo or listening to the music on headphones, choosing the perfect playlist is a popular pastime.
Those who prefer to rely on curated content from others will find plenty of inspiration, including thousands of public Spotify playlists to inspire their summer content selection.
Different criteria can be used to compile a playlist, including:
- Popularity.
- Happiness (based on user ratings for positive mood).
- Danceability (danceability as rated by users).
- Energy.
- acoustics.
- Instrumentality.
- Liveness (in relation to live recordings).
- Fluency (corresponding to the level of the spoken word).
To assess which artists are currently most popular, Royal Westmoreland, provider of luxury villas in Barbados, Digital Journal with some insights. The company crunched the numbers to find out the ultimate summer playlist songs and most popular artists.
How many playlists are out there?
There are 971 public Spotify playlists that match the search term “summer holidays”. Within these playlists there are 191,810 tracks – an average of 198 tracks per playlist.
Given this diversity, which titles are at the top of the list of most popular titles for this year’s summer holidays worldwide?

Who is the ultimate summer artist?
When it comes to the most popular artist to soundtrack the summer, Scottish DJ Calvin Harris is the winner, taking the top spot crown and also being responsible for three of the top five and four of the top 20 overall.
“Summer”, from his 2014 album Motion, is the most popular summer holiday song on Spotify. With over 1.5 billion streams, this track ranks at the top; however, in terms of number of plays alone, it lags behind Drake’s 2016 megahit “A dance”, which has well over 3 billion streams.
Overall, Harris’ “Summer“ appears in 17 percent of all playlists under the search term “summer holidays”.
