Lori Petty and Bobby Moynihan join CBS’ spinoff series ‘NCIS: Origins’

Lori Petty and Bobby Moynihan have been added to the cast of CBS’s upcoming “NCIS” prequel series “NCIS: Origins.” The actors will join a cast that also includes Austin Stowell, Kyle Schmid, Tyla Abercrumbie, Michael Molino, Diany Rodriguez and Caleb Foote, with Mark Harmon serving as narrator.

In the series, Petty plays Dr. Lenora Friedman, “a veteran pathologist with the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office. She is as comfortable around the dead as she is around the living, and her passion for the profession is infectious.” And Moynihan stars as Woodrow “Woody” Browne, “the overworked chief chemist and director of the NIS Forensic Lab who compensates for his lack of sleep with an offbeat sense of humor.”

Production on NCIS: Origins began last Monday, and the series premieres Monday, October 14 at 9 p.m. ET. The series follows young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Stowell, who plays the role made famous by Harmon) in 1991, years before the events of NCIS. “In the series, Gibbs begins his career as a rookie special agent at the fledgling NCIS office, Camp Pendleton, where he fights for his place on a competitive, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (Schmid).”

Petty was most recently seen in HBO Max’s “Station Eleven.” She has also appeared in Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black,” Bill Burr’s sketch comedy series “Immoral Compass,” the Netflix comedy “Obliterated,” Pop TV’s “Swedish Dicks” and Fox’s “Gotham.” She will next be seen in the indie film “Tonic.” Petty’s other film credits include “Point Break,” “A League of Their Own,” “Tank Girl,” “Free Willy” and “Poetic Justice.” On stage, she recently directed the play “Trial” at the American Theatre of Actors.

Moynihan, who starred on “Saturday Night Live” for nine seasons, was most recently seen in Netflix’s “Unfrosted: The Pop Tart Story” (directed by Jerry Seinfeld) and Paramount’s “Imaginary Friends,” directed by John Krasinski. He will next be seen in the film “You’re Cordially Invited” opposite Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon. Moynihan’s other TV credits include “Mr. Mayor,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “Documentary Now!”, “Drunk History,” “The Simpsons,” “Girls” and “Portlandia.” He is a regular voice actor on such series as “We Bare Bears,” “DuckTales,” “Star Wars Resistance” and films such as “Inside Out” and “Monsters University.” He is the author of the children’s book “Not All Sheep Are Boring.”
