House of the Dragon has caused some confusion surrounding Daenerys’ dragon eggs, and the differences between the book and the television are notable. game of Thrones Season 1, Daenerys receives three petrified dragon eggs as a wedding gift by Magister Illyrio Mopatis of Pentos. The origin of Dany’s dragon eggs is an enduring mystery in the franchise, as their origin can likely be linked to a dragon from the Targaryen dynasty, or possibly even one from the Dance of Dragons.

It is important to note that the television canon of game of Thrones And House of the Dragon differs from the book canon of George RR Martins The Song of Ice and Fire Saga. Regardless, it is worth analyzing the differences in the books. In Season 2, Episode 3, Rhaena Targaryen was sent away with the future of her houseincluding Rhaenyra’s young heirs, two baby dragons and four dragon eggs. The episode’s director later confirmed that three of these eggs ultimately belonged to Dany in game of Throneswhich is a bit strange.

Daenerys’ dragon eggs in the “House of the Dragon” do not fit with “Fire and Blood”

Rhaena only receives three eggs in Fire & Blood

In Fire & BloodRhaena is given only three dragon eggs to guard when she leaves, and one of them hatches into her dragon Morning. These eggs are likely from Rhaenyra’s dragon Syrax. From the perspective of Fire & Blood sometimes a bit unreliable, it is possible that the historical reports have given the wrong number of eggs. However, this hole only leads to further holes to be considered in this possible origin, and it it doesn’t seem likely at all that Dany’s dragon eggs came from Syrax in the books.

There is no good explanation for how the dragon eggs get from the valley to the Shadowlands

The Syrax eggs are not detectable, but Elissa Farman’s theory is

Daenerys Targaryen's dragon eggs in a chest in Game of Thrones

If Rhaena was sent to the Valley with the eggs, the biggest question is how they ended up in the Shadowlands beyond Asshai. Of course, there are about 170 years of history between House of the Dragon Timeline and game of Thronesbut that’s a bit risky. Rhaena could send the three extra eggs along with young Aegon and Viserys to Pentos after Morning hatches, thus starting the eggs’ journey to the Far East, but there are more plausible results from other theories.

Elissa Farman’s theory examines the possibility of a woman during the reign of King Jaehaerys I who stole three dragon eggs from the hatcheries and allegedly sold them to a sea lord of Braavos. It is also reported that Corlys Velaryon believed she saw her ship all the way to Asshai, suggesting that she may have made it that far. The theory also suggests that the eggs belonged to Dreamfyre, Helaena Targaryen’s dragon. While it is a fun idea to make Rhaenyra’s dragon the mother of Daenerys’ dragons, it is an aspect of House of the Dragon that seems pretty contrived.
