Dia Nash uses a pseudonym to distinguish herself from famous mother Niecy

Dia Nash did not want to exploit the reputation of her famous mother Niecy Nash-Betts to boost her career.

In an interview with People Magazinethe 24-year-old actress, who lives with her mother in Monster revealed how she became independent from her 54-year-old mother.

“I think I used a wrong surname,” said the Murder of the sister’s wife Star remembered her first audition.

“I want to do this as myself,” she told herself before the audition, to avoid any reason to associate her with her Emmy-winning mother.

“After that, I just kept it because my last name sounds so nice,” said Dia as she dropped her pseudonym.

These remarks from the young actress come after her mother said Business Insider that she does not want her three children, who all work in the same industry, to be called Nepo babies.

“Most of the time, my kids go to auditions. And they compete against other people,” Nash-Betts told the publication in an interview earlier this year.

“I’ve told everyone on every film I’ve done, ‘You don’t have to do my kids any favors,'” she explained. “Make them work for it, make them earn it – if they get the part, that’s fine. If they don’t, that’s fine too.”
