The Riviera Country Club is the official host of the 2028 Olympic Games.

The International Golf Federation announced on Friday that the legendary Southern California golf course will host the men’s and women’s golf events at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

“We are honored to partner with LA28 and the world-renowned Riviera Country Club to host the golf competitions during the 2028 Los Angeles Games,” said Antony Scanlon, IGF executive director, in a statement. “Riviera Country Club will provide a prestigious and ever-challenging setting for the best golfers, and we look forward to sharing one of the finest courses with our fans around the world.”

Riviera has been considered as a venue for the 2028 Olympics and the course has been in preparation for some time. The last two gold medalists in golf, Justin Rose and Xander Schauffele, even met with Olympic swimming champion Janet Evans for a photo with their medals at Riviera in 2023.

Opened in 1926 and located in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles, Riviera hosts the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational every year. This tournament, won earlier this year by Hideki Matsuyama with an incredible final round of 62, is hosted each season by Tiger Woods and his foundation. The course has hosted several major tournaments in the past, including the 1995 PGA Championship and the 1998 U.S. Senior Open. The U.S. Women’s Open will be played there in 2026, when the course celebrates its centennial, and the U.S. Open will be played there in 2031.

Los Angeles will host the Summer Olympics in 2028 for the third time in history. The 2024 Games will begin in Paris on July 24, with the opening ceremony scheduled for July 26. The men’s golf competition will open on August 1, and the women’s competition on August 7. Both tournaments will be played at Le Golf National outside Paris. The course, which hosts a DP World Tour event each season, also hosted the 2018 Ryder Cup. Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa are the four American men who will compete in the Olympics, and Nelly Korda, Lilia Vu and Rose Zhang will represent the United States in the women’s event.
