Mick Jagger dines at famous restaurant in Vancouver

A rock’n’roll legend appeared at a popular Vancouver restaurant over the weekend.

On Saturday, Mick Jagger personally dined at Vij’s.

“It was a great honor,” chef and owner Vikram Vij told CTV News Channel on Monday.

“I’m such a huge fan of Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones and the fact that he chose to offer Indian food in Vancouver, where there is great sushi and great other restaurants and chefs … (that’s) really an honour that I’m very humbled by.”

The icon was in town after the Rolling Stones performed at BC Place on Friday. It was the Stones’ first show in Vancouver in nearly two decades. They last rocked at BC Place in 2006.

Vij said he and the frontman had a great conversation which also covered cricket and travelling in India.

“He was absolutely very kind and loving,” Vij said.

For anyone wondering what Jagger ate, Vij said he was “really impressed” by the star’s “healthy appetite.” The nearly 81-year-old feasted on starters, butter chicken – which Vij personally prepared for him in the kitchen – naan, rice, dessert and beer.

The chef added that Jagger asked for all the ingredients in the dish.

“I was totally impressed and thank him from the bottom of my heart for enjoying our food so much,” he said.

None of the other guests in the restaurant stood up to disturb the guest of honor.

“Everyone’s jaws dropped and then they carried on eating,” said Vij, adding that many of the guests had been to the Rolling Stones concert the night before.

Before leaving, Jagger took photos with Vij and the entire restaurant staff.

“This was an iconic moment for us at Vij’s Restaurant,” said the owner.

The restaurant on Cambie Street is no stranger to high-profile guests. In February, Prince Harry and Meghan paid a surprise visit to Vij’s. BC singer Michael Bublé and his wife Luisana Lopilato also dined at the restaurant that evening.
