National Press Club statement on safety for journalists covering the GOP convention

WASHINGTON, July 13, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Below is a statement from the President of the National Press Club Emily Wilkins for the safety of journalists covering the GOP convention that begins next week in Milwaukee.

“Thousands of reporters, editors, photographers, researchers and support staff are in Milwaukee to bring Americans the important news from the Republican Party Convention, which is beginning 15th of JulyWe call on everyone attending the rally or protesting to let us do our work safely on behalf of the American people, who have every right to know the details of one of the biggest political events of the election.

“We call on all speakers at the party conference to refrain from using language that could incite people on the streets against journalists.”
