“Holy pepperoni, Batman!” A comic-themed pizzeria is opening soon in Port Orange

PORT ORANGE, Florida. – Forty years ago, Marco Falletta’s father took him to a comic book store for the first time, but he did not know that this would be his Cannon event.

Falletta strolled through the store, passing by countless different comics, but one caught his attention – The Amazing Spider-Man #238.

“Since that day, I have not stopped collecting and every time I see this particular book, I buy it,” Falletta told News 6. “Now I own 39 copies of this book.”

Falletta’s love of comics led him to open Arkham Asylum Comics in Port Orange.

“It’s going so well that I actually quit my full-time job (…) to be honest, we just started it as a hobby,” he said.

Now Falletta combines his passion for superhero stories with another part of his life – pizza.

“My family has been in the pizza business for over 40 years. My father came from Sicily and then moved to New York where he became a pizza delivery man,” said Falletta.

On August 1, he will open Gotham City Pizza at 3761 S. Nova Road. The pizzeria is a mile from Arkham Asylum Comics.

This is the second Gotham City Pizza location he opened. The first was in Ormond Beach. He sold that location for personal reasons and the new owner closed it six months later.

“Pizza and comics are my passion, so I thought, why not combine the two and give the city something unique and different?” said Falletta.

Falletta says that when you enter the restaurant you are transported into the world of comics.

“Not only can you get amazing Italian food there, we will also be selling memorabilia and special items, including superhero-themed ones,” Falletta said.

He said the menu items would be named after certain characters’ aliases and would even feature a unique eating challenge.

The challenge, called the Infinity Gauntlet, is a three-foot-tall Stromboli. If you complete it within 30 minutes, you’ll get the meal for free, a t-shirt, and a picture hanging on the Wall of Justice.

All in all, Falletta currently has no plans to expand and grow the brand, but he is excited to create this new experience for the community.

The menu and opening hours are not yet released. Click Here to see updates as they become available.
