Chris Watts’ letters from prison about murders resurface

WARNING – DISTURBING CONTENT: Chris Watts’ gruesome letters from his prison cell have resurfaced as a Netflix documentary reveals more details about the murders of his pregnant wife and two daughters.

Watts, 35, of Colorado, was sentenced to prison for the murder of his pregnant wife, Shanann Watts, 34, and his two daughters, Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, in August 2018.

After killing his wife, Watts drove her body and those of his daughters to a former employer’s oil rig about 40 miles from the family home and smothered the girls with a blanket.

Now his letters have resurfaced after being published last year in Letters From Christopher, a book Cheryln Cradle wrote after she corresponded with him while he was serving a life sentence.

In one of the letters shown to the Daily Mail television channel, Watts revealed the moments before his family’s death.

“On the morning of August 13th, I went to the girls’ bathroom first before Shanann and I had our argument,” he wrote.

“I went into Bella’s room, then into Cece’s room and used a pillow from her bed (to kill her). Therefore, suffocation was the cause of death. After I left Cece’s room, I climbed back into bed with Shanann and our argument started.

“After Shanann died, Bella and Cece woke up. I’m not sure how they woke up, but they woke up. Bella’s eyes were bruised and both girls looked like they had been through trauma.”

Watts had planned murders

After the murders, Watts claimed he had murdered his wife in revenge for her killing their children. However, in letters to Cradle, he refuted this story and confessed that he had planned the murders.

It is believed that he planned the murders in order to be with his lover, Nichol Kessinger.

“On August 12, after I put the girls to bed, I walked away and said, ‘This is the last time I’m going to tuck my babies in.’ I knew the day before what was going to happen and I did nothing to stop it,” he said.

According to Daily Mail TV, he also admitted to giving Shanann oxycodone without her knowledge in an attempt to induce a miscarriage.

In the moments before Watts killed his wife, he told her he no longer loved her.

“Isn’t it strange when I look back and remember so clearly how her face turned black from the mascara streaks?” he wrote in the letters.

“All those weeks I had been thinking about killing her and now I was faced with it. When she got sleepy, I somehow knew how to squeeze the carotid arteries until the blood supply to her brain was cut off and she passed out.

“I knew if I took my hands off her, she would still keep me away from Nikki. They asked me why she couldn’t fight back. It was because she couldn’t fight back. Her eyes filled with blood. When she looked at me, she died. I knew she was gone when she relieved herself.”

Disturbing moment shows a father’s reaction to video surveillance

A scene in the new Netflix documentary “American Murder: The Family Next Door” shows the tense moment when Watts, his neighbor Nate Trinastich and a police officer review a security camera to try to figure out what happened the night Shanann and her daughters disappeared.

Watts appears fidgety and nervous as the three men watch the footage together.

CCTV footage was taken from Mr Trinastich’s driveway and shows Watts parking in a different spot than where he normally parks.

The footage shows Watts backing into the driveway at 5:17 a.m. and then appearing to load items into his car.

Watts explains that he usually parks outside on the street because it is easier “to lug everything in with all the tools he had to bring in.”

However, he says he parked somewhere else because there were problems with people trying to break into his home and steal things.

Worryingly, it has now emerged that this was actually the moment when he loaded his victims into the car.

Watts tells the policeman, “She’s pregnant too, sir.” Then he leaves and the policeman continues talking to Mr. Trinastitch.
