Dodgers All-Star to play major role in new ESPN series

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman will star in ESPN’s upcoming series “My Wish.” The series will air the 17th season of the show, which debuted in 2006. ESPN is partnering with the Make a Wish Foundation to give several children battling disease the opportunity to make their dream come true, according to an ESPN press release.

Freeman and the Dodgers fulfilled Gunnar’s wish to meet Freeman before a game and play a game of catch at Dodger Stadium. Freeman is Gunnar’s favorite baseball player.

Freeman and Gunnar’s contribution will be available on Thursday, July 18th on sport Center at 6 p.m. ET. The “My Wish” series also features Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky, the San Francisco 49ers, Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins, and Duke men’s basketball.

Here’s the trailer for this season, which shows Gunnar and Freddie hugging on the field at Dodger Stadium, with Gunnar wearing a No. 5 Freeman jersey.

Freeman is in the midst of his eighth All-Star season and will be in the middle of the MLB All-Star break when the segment airs. The former National League MVP was one of the best first basemen in baseball and a key part of the Dodgers’ lineup. This season, he’s hit .294/.398/.499 with 14 home runs and 59 RBIs.
