RRSpin – Dorothy Lee Watson Taylor

Dorothy Lee Watson Taylor departed this life on Friday, July 12, 2024, after a long illness.

She died at her home in Gumberry, NC.

Dorothy was the daughter of Robert Cash and Rosa Lee Watson.

She grew up in Norlina, North Carolina, and graduated from Norlina High School in 1952.

After graduating, Dorothy began working as a telegraph clerk for the Seaboard Railroad, beginning a 34-year career that included working as a station clerk in numerous cities in North Carolina and Virginia until her retirement from CSX.

In 1957, Dorothy was assigned to Gumberry Station, where she met the love of her life, Carl Taylor. This year they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Dorothy was baptized at the age of 11 at Norlina Baptist Church, but spent most of her life as a member of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church in Northampton County.

She lived out her Christian faith through many quiet acts of kindness and helpfulness.

Mrs. Taylor’s husband, Carl Taylor, recently passed away.

Dorothy is survived by her three sons and their wives: Lee (Noel) Taylor, Craig Taylor and Ellis (Christina) Taylor; three grandchildren: Hannah (Alex) Headley, Joy Taylor and Reagan Taylor; and one great-grandchild: Adelaine Headley. She is also survived by her loving sister, Mary Ella Abbott, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 15, at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church (near Jackson), with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Robert Hill will officiate.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the many people who prayed for Dorothy and showed her kindness during her illness.

We thank the invaluable nursing team of BJ Avens, Diane Schmeer, Joyce Winston, Evora Miles, Kimothy Parker, Joslyn Rivers and Gentiva Hospice Care.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery Fund (755 Gumberry Road, Garysburg, NC 27831) or a charity of your choice.
