Chris Watts’ bloodthirsty boasting in prison

In an interview with investigators on February 18, 2019, Chris Watts spoke about his newfound faith. “I never thought I could have a relationship with God like I do now,” he said, according to transcripts released by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. “All of this is like an incredible grace, but I just wish nobody had to pay any price for this… I know every person has a purpose, I just hope I can find mine.”

He also said God gave him many opportunities to “get out” of his relationship with Nichol Kessinger, but he didn’t. While incarcerated in the Weld County Jail, other inmates told him he encouraged him to kill himself in his cell, but he chose not to because he felt he had another purpose. According to Watts, he prayed to God to move him out of Colorado, and the FBI report states he believes God moved him elsewhere “for a reason” — which is deleted from the record.

Watts claimed that people came to him for spiritual advice at the time and that he had read the Bible “several times” – something he had never done before his incarceration. He even claimed that his aunt and uncle, who are missionaries, were impressed by “how mature he has become” in his use of the Bible.
