Dr. Ruth Westheimer, America’s most famous sex therapist, dies at the age of 96

Ruth Westheimer, the star sex therapist known to millions as “Dr. Ruth,” has died at the age of 96.

Westheimer died Friday at her home in Manhattan, her publicist Pierre Lehu confirmed. The cause of death was not disclosed.

The sex therapist, born in Germany in 1928, survived the Holocaust before moving to the USA in 1956.

Westheimer worked in academia for decades before she rose to public fame in 1980 with the segment “Sexually Speaking” on New York radio station WYNY.

The diminutive star – who was already over 50 – quickly became famous for her candid advice and helped remove the stigma from sex for generations of Americans.

Westheimer’s advice was always delivered cheerfully and respectfully, and her cheeky slogan, “Get some!” was instantly recognizable.
