Summer returns to the Central Michigan region, with the possibility of daily showers and storms

LANSING, Michigan (WLNS) – After a rainy week, Mother Nature is giving us summer temperatures for the next few days.

Today we can expect temperatures around 30 degrees with plenty of sunshine and some humidity, so the heat index or perceived temperature will be just under 30 degrees. If you go outside today, pack sunscreen and sun protection (fishing hat, sunglasses, sun shirt) because the UV index will reach level 9, meaning you could risk sunburn in less than 20 minutes!

Clouds will form towards the evening and there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms. While most of the region will remain dry tonight, there is a chance of those thunderstorms moving in early Sunday morning. Temperatures will remain mild tonight, ranging between 18 and 20 degrees, so air conditioning will be the best way to stay cool tonight.

On Sunday we will begin a wave of thunderstorms as early as 6am that will last until at least midday. The threat from these storms will include cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy rain. Depending on how clear it gets after this morning wave of storms, we could see another wave of storms in the late afternoon into the early hours of Monday.

Temperatures for our Sunday remain mild, again in the high 30s. We’re seeing dew points between above 18 and below 21 degrees, meaning the feel of the temperature will be just above 35 degrees. The Storm Prediction Center is rating central Michigan as moderately dangerous for severe weather on Sunday, with gusty winds and heavy rain again being the main threat.

Our active pattern continues into the upcoming work week. We’re in for another hot and humid day on Monday with temperatures in the 30s and 35s and dew points between 21 and 25 degrees, bringing our feels back to the 35s and 35s! We expect an end to the heat and humidity in the form of a cold front that will move through Monday night into Tuesday, bringing showers and storms to the region once again.
By mid-week, temperatures will drop back below average and the dew point will drop. Daytime highs will reach 24 to 25 degrees by mid-week, and nighttime lows will drop back to 10 to 12 degrees – a refreshing end to a hot and humid week!

As always, with heat and thunderstorms forecast, make sure to stay hydrated and use multiple ways to receive weather alerts for the rest of the weekend and into the coming week!
