The parents of the killer father speak out after the release of the Netflix documentary
The parents of killer father Chris Watts have spoken out a week after a new documentary about their son’s gruesome crimes aired on Netflix.
Watts, 35, of Colorado, was sentenced to prison for the murder of his pregnant wife, Shanann Watts, 34, and his two daughters, Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, in August 2018.
After killing his wife, Watts drove her body and those of his daughters to a former employer’s oil rig about 40 miles from the family home and smothered the girls with a blanket.
The story made headlines around the world after Watts made an emotional plea for information to find his wife and children when they went missing.
A documentary recently aired on Netflix detailing Watts’ crimes and documenting the investigation into the fate of his wife and children.
Watts’ parents, Ronnie and Cindy, told The Sun their son had not yet seen the documentary and was now religious. They speak to him regularly as he serves a life sentence.
They said they had seen the documentary.
Mrs Watts said she could not get over her son’s actions.
“There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t wake up with them on my mind, go to sleep with them on my mind. I’ll never, ever get over it. It’s something that sticks with you,” she told The Sun.
Mr Watts added that while the couple still love their son, their life is not complete without their grandchildren.
“We still love our son no matter what happens and we miss our grandchildren. We are trying to move on but it is a very difficult task,” he told the newspaper.
Letters from the killer’s father were also published in a book called “Letters from Christopher.”
In one of the letters shown to the Daily Mail television channel, Watts revealed the moments before his family’s death.
Watts wrote about an argument he had with his wife on August 13, shortly before he murdered Shanann, Cece and Bella.
It is believed that he planned the murders in order to be with his lover.
