PETOSKEY – The Rotary Club of Petoskey recently announced that it has committed nearly $100,000 to support local nonprofit and educational organizations in 2024.

“Our members are passionate about giving back and creating opportunities for our community,” said Christian Smith, current president of the Rotary Club of Petoskey, in a press release. “Every project we support is carefully selected to align with our values ​​and goals to ensure our contributions have the greatest impact possible.”

The recipients and their respective projects include:

  • Camp Daggett: $12,055 to install a fire suppression system in the camp kitchen and to support a summer day camp for local youth

  • Habitat for Humanity: $5,000 to help build affordable housing for those in need

  • Manna Food Project: $2,500 to support ongoing hunger relief efforts in the community

  • McLaren Northern Michigan: $4,500 for the Career Academy to improve educational opportunities and job training for local residents

  • North Central Michigan College: $15,000 scholarships for nursing and accelerated degree students

  • The Petoskey Club: $5,000 to provide educational scholarships for individuals who do not qualify for Medicaid

  • Salvation Army: $4,988 to upgrade kitchen facilities and improve food delivery for people experiencing food insecurity

Additionally, the club donated $50,000 to the Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan for the Children’s Learning Center. This donation is part of their capital campaign to improve the center’s facilities and expand its services to children and families in the area.

“This is an exciting time for our club as we continue to make significant strides in supporting our community,” said Reg Smith, outgoing president, in a statement. “These donations aren’t just numbers; they demonstrate our commitment to making a real difference in the lives of our neighbors. We are especially proud of our $50,000 donation to the Children’s Learning Center, which will have a lasting impact on the future of our community’s children and help alleviate the child care crisis in our region.”
